Mara North Conservancy

This is an area of protected wildlife and habitat abutting the northern border of the world famous Maasai Mara. The Mara River itself flows by, not too far from the campsite.

We stayed in a tented campsite called the Offbeat Mara Camp.
Certainly, we soon knew that we were living in the midst of the wildlife.
Each night one could listen to the various calls of the wild and sightings would start as soon as one opened the tent in the morning,

When walking to and from the main mess tent it was a requirement that an armed guard escorted each of us to and from our individual tents.
Just how necessary was illustrated on the third morning, when the guide pointed out footprints of a leopard passing through the short grass about TEN yards from my tent!
